This engaging Of Mice and Men character analysis activity focuses on the characterization of George and Lennie. This can be used for chapter 1 or as a stand alone lesson!

Version 1 - Individual

 

Page one tasks students with finding examples of the actions, behaviors and speech of both George and Lennie and explaining what it reveals about their character


Page two requires students to focus on the interactions between George and Lennie and what it reveals about their relationship with each other.
 
Version 2 - Group Assignment

 

Students are assigned either George or Lennie and have to find examples of either their actions, speech or impact on each other and what is suggests about their character.

5. Activity 3 - Character Relationships Chart

 

Students analyze the interactions between George and Lennie to see what it reveals about their relationship.
 
6. Assessment

Students use the activities to draw a final conclusion about their first impressions of George, Lennie and their relationship.


There are two different versions of this assessment:

 

Version 1: Students can use The SAUCY Response Method to respond to each assessment question. This is a writing strategy I created myself in response to the struggles I saw my students having when trying to write brief constructed response.
